Samsung Electronics meets Semiconductor Climate Consortium members for the first time as Governing Council

On February 21st, the Semiconductor Climate Consortium (SCC) virtually hosted its’ first all member meeting with members from across the global semiconductor value chain. The meeting briefed on initial working groups, their objectives and paths to success. Samsung Electronics joined the meeting as founding member and showed support for the industry to collectively move toward the ultimate goal. The SCC has grown to more than 75 member companies gathered under the common goal.

As part of the recently elected Governing Council (GC), Samsung Electronics has continued its proactive involvement and leadership for the industry’s sustainability. The SCC membership consists of sustainability leaders across the semiconductor supply chain who will as SEMI president and CEO Ajit Manocha put “…guide the Consortium in setting goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and prioritize the actions needed to achieve them.”

Throughout the meeting the SCC management shared the overall governance and future operation of the consortium and also introduced the initial Working Groups Charters, categorized by individual objectives to ultimately achieve consortium’s overarching goal. Each Working Groups will be supported by a Governing Council member to which Samsung Semiconductor will be supporting the Emission Reporting Protocol Working Group.

SCC Initial Working Groups:
– Ambition-Setting, Baselining & Road mapping
– Scope 1 – Global Warming Potential
– Scope 2 – Renewable Energy
– Scope 3 – Focus on “Purchased Goods and Services” & “Use of Sold Products”
– Emission Reporting Protocols

At the meeting, the SCC encouraged member companies to actively participate in established working groups and shared the plans of establishing an Outreach WG to collaborate with relevant global initiatives and stakeholders.

Representatives from Samsung Electrics will play a key role in guiding the path of the SCC by sharing our best practices and helping build appropriate standards for the industry to drive toward a sustainable future.
