<p>자성체로 코팅된 원판형&nbsp;기판에&nbsp;데이터를 저장하는 대용량 저장장치.</p>



<p>PC의 구조는 크게 5가지(중앙처리/ 주기억/ 보조기억/ 입력/ 출력장치)로 구분되는데 프로그램이나 데이터의 영구 보관이 가능한 보조기억장치에는 HDD(Hard Disk Drive)와 <a href="https://bit.ly/3i93WN7" data-type="URL" data-id="https://bit.ly/3i93WN7" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">SSD(Solid State Drive)</a>가 있다.</p>



<p>PC가 보급되기 시작하면서 휴대용 저장장치인&nbsp;&#8216;플로피(Floppy,&nbsp;부드러운)&nbsp;디스크&#8217;&nbsp;가 많이 사용되었으나,&nbsp;단단한 금속 디스크 플래터에 데이터를 기록하는&nbsp;&#8216;하드(Hard,&nbsp;단단한)&nbsp;디스크&#8217;가 등장하면서&nbsp;PC&nbsp;내부에 설치되는 대용량 자기디스크 기반 보조기억 장치를&nbsp;HDD라고 부르게 되었다.</p>



<p>HDD는 플래터를 회전시키고 그 위에 헤드를 접근시켜 플래터 표면의 자기 배열을 변경하는 방식으로 데이터를 읽거나 쓴다. 플래터의 중심에는 플래터를 회전시키기 위한 스핀들 모터가 있는데 이 모터의 회전 속도가 높을수록 데이터의 빠른 읽기/쓰기가 가능하다. </p>
