<p>삼성전자와 현대제철은 반도체 제조공정에서 발생하는 폐수슬러지(침전물)를 제철 과정 부원료로 재사용할 수 있는 신기술을 공동 개발했습니다.</p>



<p class="has-small-font-size">※ 폐수슬러지: 반도체 공정 중 발생하는 폐수 처리 과정에서 나온 침전물로, 반도체 공정에서 발생하는 전체 폐기물의 절반 이상을 차지</p>



<p>제철소의 제강 공정에서는 쇳물 속 불순물(황, 인)을 더욱 쉽게 제거하기 위해 형석을 사용하고 있는데, 반도체 폐수슬러지에 포함된 주성분(플루오린화칼슘, CaF2 50~60%)이 형석과 유사한 성분이라는 점에서 착안한 연구 결과입니다.</p>



<p class="has-small-font-size">※ 쇳물에 형석(재활용제품으로 대체)을 투입하면 CaF2성분이 쇳물의 녹는점을 낮춰 불순물 제거 반응을 촉진하는 방식 <br>※ 슬래그에 형석(재활용제품으로 대체)을 투입하면 CaF2성분이 슬래그의 녹는점을 낮춰 쇳물 속 불순물을 잘 흡수하여 제거하는 반응을 촉진하는 방식<br>&#8211; 쇳물 : 용융된 철(주요 성분 : Fe, C, 불순물 P, S)<br>&#8211; 슬래그 : 산화물(주요 성분 : FeO-CaO-SiO2-MgO)</p>

<p>삼성전자와 현대제철, 제철세라믹(재활용업체) 등 3사(社)는 2020년 8월 폐수슬러지 재활용관련 기술협약을 맺고 공동 연구개발을 통해 지난 4월 현대제철 당진제철소에서 30톤의 형석대체품을 사용하여 철강재 생산에 성공했습니다.</p>



<p>해당 신기술은 2021년 6월 한국환경공단 1차 평가, 8월 국립환경과학원 최종 평가를 거쳐 지난 8월 31일 최종 승인되었습니다.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong><span style="color:#2d3293" class="has-inline-color">국립환경과학원 재활용환경성평가 제도 신설 후 모범 사례</span></strong></p>



<p>국립환경과학원에서는 2016년 7월 재활용환경성평가 제도가 신설 된 후 가장 모범적인 사례로 평가했습니다. 아울러 그동안 기술적, 제도적 한계로 재활용되지 못했던 폐기물이 재활용환경성평가를 통해 보다 적극적으로 재활용될 수 있도록 기술적, 행정적 지원을 아끼지 않을 예정입니다.</p>



<p class="has-small-font-size">※ 재활용환경성평가 : 폐기물관리법에서 정하지 아니한 새로운 유형의 재활용이나, 성토재 등을 일정 규모 이상 사용시 사람의 건강이나 환경에 미치는 악영향을 사전 조사/예측 후 평가 하여 이를 허용하는 제도</p>



<p>형석은 전량 해외(남미, 중국 등) 수입에 의존 하고 있는 광물입니다. 현대제철에서는 연간 약 2만 톤의 형석을 수입해 사용하는데, 이르면 오는 10월 말부터 약 1만여 톤을 폐수슬러지 재활용품으로 대체하고 향후 점차 사용량을 늘려간다는 계획입니다.</p>



<p>이번 기술개발로 삼성전자는 그동안 시멘트공장으로 보내지던 폐수슬러지를 다양한 분야에서 재활용 할 수 있게 되었으며, 현대제철의 형석 구매비용 절감에도 기여할 것으로 기대됩니다.</p>



<p>&#8216;폐기물을 활용한 대체물질 개발&#8217;은 정부의 자원순환 정책에 부응함과 동시에 기업, 관계기관 협업을 통해 창출된 &#8216;자원순환형 ESG&#8217;의 모범 사례입니다.</p>



<p>삼성전자 DS부문 환경안전센터장 장성대 전무는 &#8220;삼성전자는 앞으로도 폐기물 재활용률 100% 달성을 목표로 친환경 자원순환기술 개발을 지속함으로써 ESG경영을 강화해 나가겠다&#8221;고 밝혔습니다.</p>



<p>현대제철 연구개발·품질본부장 최주태 전무는 &#8220;이번 재활용 기술을 통한 자원 확보는 친환경 미래 제철소의 중요한 전략적 요소이자 경쟁력이 될 것 이라며 다양한 환경에너지기술로 자원과 에너지의 순환구조를 구축해 유한자원의 한계를 극복해 나갈 것&#8221;이라고 말했습니다.</p>



<p>최근 삼성전자는 환경부 녹색기업 선정, 카본 트러스트(Carbon Trust) 탄소/물/폐기물 저감 인증, UL社 폐기물 매립 제로 인증 등 공신력 있는 기관들로부터 폐기물 저감 활동 노력을 인정받고 있으며, 앞으로도 친환경 기업으로서 사회적 책임을 다해나갈 예정입니다.</p>

<p>폐액은 반도체 공정 과정에 활용된 후 폐기되는 액체를 뜻합니다. 삼성전자 반도체는 이러한 폐액도 자원으로 재활용할 수 있는 방법을 계속해서 찾아 나가고 있습니다. 이를 위해 각 라인에 별도의 탱크를 설치해 폐액을 모으고, 물질별로 적합한 처리 업체를 통해 수거합니다.</p>



<p>삼성전자 반도체에서 수거된 폐액은 처리 과정을 거쳐 다시 사용할 수 있는 액체로 태어나는데, 99% 이상이 재활용되어 새로운 가치를 얻고 있습니다. 예를 들어 폐황산은 재생황산으로 재탄생해 폐수처리장에서 폐수의 pH 조절 용도로 사용되고, 폐인산은 재생인산이 되어 금속연마제와 비료, 소화약제 제조 원료로 사용됩니다. 폐시너는 페인트를 희석하는 새로운 시너로 활용되고요.</p>



<p>이렇게 폐액의 대부분이 재활용되지만, 한서연 님의 목표는 ‘폐액 재활용 100% 달성’입니다. 그녀가 새로운 재활용 시장 발굴을 위해 오늘도 애쓰고 있는 이유이기도 합니다.</p>
