<p>고온에서 녹인 실리콘으로 만든 실리콘 기둥.</p>



<p>대부분의 <a href="https://news.samsungsemiconductor.com/kr/%eb%b0%98%eb%8f%84%ec%b2%b4-%ec%9a%a9%ec%96%b4-%ec%82%ac%ec%a0%84-%ec%9b%a8%ec%9d%b4%ed%8d%bc/" data-type="URL">웨이퍼</a>는 모래에서 추출한 규소, 즉 실리콘으로 만든다. 규소는 모래에 많이 들어있는 물질로서, <a href="https://news.samsungsemiconductor.com/kr/%eb%b0%98%eb%8f%84%ec%b2%b4-%ec%9a%a9%ec%96%b4-%ec%82%ac%ec%a0%84-%eb%b0%98%eb%8f%84%ec%b2%b4/">반도체</a> 원료로 쓰이기 위해서는 정제과정이 필요하다.</p>



<p>그래서 초크랄스키법 같은 실리콘 결정 성장기술을 이용하는데, 실리콘을 뜨거운 열로 녹여 고순도의 실리콘 용액으로 만들고, 이것을 균일한 둥근 막대 모양의 단결정으로 식힌다.</p>



<p>여기서 성장된 단결정이 바로 &#8216;잉곳(ingot)&#8217;으로 이 것을 다이아몬드 톱을 이용해 균일한 두께로 절단하면 웨이퍼가 된다.</p>
